029A - 6/09 - New Trick
If you take 100,000 pictures with a camera, you begin to learn its strong and weak points. For the Nikon CoolPix 4500 I use, one weak point is highly saturated red. Especially in low light, it tends to render very red areas with splotches of magenta scattered throughout. It did that on the image to the left above, and largely spoiled the redness of the dress. Fiddling with possible solutions, I did a color select and sampled the magenta spots several times, then went to hue/saturation and played with color space rotations on the selected area. Turns out a mere 15 degree twist toward red does the trick - the magenta snaps into place and the dress looks red again. It's a trick worth remembering.
