62 - Rock Pile Rapid
A mile downstream, we arrived at Rock Pile Rapids. We watched it for a while, talking about routes through. There were a lot of people there, it appeared a local kayak club was running the rapid over and over that day, so we had to share with them. There were also some far less experienced people in canoes. The tricky part is off the frame to the right. The simplest line through is between the two mostly submerged rocks, roughly in the center of the frame, but off-frame right there is another submerged rock that looked hard to dodge. In the very strong current it is hard to control a boat, even one as nimble as a kayak. If you have trouble gauging the scale, note the man sitting behind the rock upper left. He's with the kayak club, probably there in case rescue was needed, or acting as lookout for canoes.
