This is an actual pixels crop of the previous picture. The original was shot at 280mm, this cropped view is roughly equivalent to what a 1000mm lens would produce. The 280mm was achieved with a 70-200mm zoom combined with a 1.4x converter. You'll read a lot about how the image quality is awful with those converters, but my experience has been pretty good. Certainly this image is impressive. This was shot at f/5.6, only one stop down from wide open. The corner performance is not as good -- but it's not awful either. I'm pleased with it so far.
