19 - Performance Sept 11Us old-timers of the theater remember when Sarah played Flute in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Midsummer has a play-within-the-play, the play of Pyramus and Thisby, and Flute had been cast as Thisby. So Sarah is a girl, playing the boy Flute, playing the girl Thisby, and the dialog went QUINCE Flute, you must take Thisby on you. FLUTE What is Thisby? a wandering knight? QUINCE It is the lady that Pyramus must love. FLUTE Nay, faith, let me not play a woman; I have a beard coming. ...glad to see that all these years later, her beard finally came in.
