The cattle were resting in the shade near the downstream gate to the creek. They weren't being allowed through the gate, since there's some construction down there, and part of the fence has been taken down. They were clearly pretty annoyed about this. They tended to congregate around the various passages to the creek, waiting for the gates to be opened.
