It was all going so well, we decided to give it a second run before proceeding downstream.

We carried the kayaks back up above the rapids, then Evan set out again. I took this picture. Seconds later he struck the downstream rock very hard. I didn't hear it - the roar of the rapid drowned out everything. But he told me later that he felt the jolt and thought "that didn't sound good". He was not hurt, but the stern of the kayak was cracked wide open.
